This work, skilfully translated by Thomas Cleary, presents the only Taoist interpretation of the I Ching, the oldest and most highly regarded of the Chinese religious classics. For centuries the I Ching has been used to map the development of human consciousness. Containing the underlying principles of many world religions, it is highly prized by the followers of Taoism.

He is the author of commentaries on several Taoist classics, including The Taoist I Ching and The Inner Teachings of Taoism by Chang Po-tuan, both translated by Thomas Cleary. Thomas Cleary holds a PhD in East Asian Languages and Civilizations from Harvard University and a JD from the University of California, Berkeley, Boalt Hall School of Law. He is the translator of over fifty volumes of Buddhist, Taoist, Confucian, and Islamic texts from Sanskrit, Chinese, Japanese, Pali, and Arabic.
