The book is an exploration of retirement from a biblical theological perspective emphasizing the practice of living. It is intended as a guide for Christian believers contemplating of entering retirement and persons working with them. It is both theological and autobiographical.

Author Bio

Stan Basler is a retired minister in the Oklahoma Conference of the United Methodist Church. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Letters from the University of Oklahoma in 1969, a Juris Doctor from the University of Kansas in 1977, a Master of Divinity Magna Cum Laude from Phillips Theological Seminary in 1992 and a Doctor of Ministry from Saint Paul School of Theology in 2000. From June of 1994 until February of 2013, he served as Director of Criminal Justice and Mercy Ministries of the Oklahoma Conference of the United Methodist Church. He practiced law in Kansas as his primary vocation from 1977-1990. He served as Montgomery County, Kansas Commissioner from 1983-1987. He has served on 3 legislative task forces in Oklahoma. For several years he was a citizen member of the Oklahoma County Community Sentencing Board and is past Chair of Citizens for Juvenile Justice in Oklahoma County. He presently serves as adjunct professor at Saint Paul School of Theology and Oklahoma City University School of Law where he volunteers at the Oklahoma Innocence Project. He is the Thursday night preacher at Penn Ave Redemption United Methodist Church in Oklahoma City, a congregation of prisoners, former prisoners, their families and never incarcerate persons. He spends time as his farm is Southeast Kansas and is a volunteer attorney for Kansas legal aid. He is married to Janet Basler, a gifted teacher and avid Christian disciple. His daughter, Adrianna Jenson is an attorney who has given him a grandson, Ezra. He spends time with Ezra weekly. He has served on a number of Kairos Prison Ministry teams and was civically active in Southeast Kansas as an attorney. From 1990-1994, he served as Associate Minister at First United Methodist Church in Muskogee, Oklahoma. He was President of Muskogee Cooperative Ministries and was the visionary for First Choice, an after school tutoring ministry of the church he served. For the past 4 years he has served as a tutor for Whiz Kids in Oklahoma City. For 10 years he was chair of the IMPACT Committee (legislative advocacy) of the Oklahoma Conference of Churches. He is currently a member of the National Association for Community and Restorative Justice and VOICE a community organizing group in Oklahoma City.
