This anthology provides the reader with a selection of John Dee's writings, which illustrate his multifarious interests from Hermetic and Cabalistic philosophy to mathematics, astronomy, astrology and navigation. The editor, Gerald Suster, has drawn from such works as the Monas Hieroglyphica and the Preface to Euclid as well as from the "Spiritual Diaries", reaffirming Dee's central position in the history of Renaissance thought and the development of Western Magic.
Born in 1951, Gerald Suster was educated at Highgate School and Trinity Hall, Cambridge. From 1979 onward he worked as a professional author, with a particular interest in magic. His works include a series of occult novels and biographies of Aleister Crowley and Israel Regardie. He died in 2000.
