This book was written with the hope of inspiring professionals who are contemplating a career in fundraising. It provides anecdotes, stories as well as tips on becoming a highly effective fundraising professional. In the second part of the book, Harvey covers some of the most remarkable personal habits of highly effective fundraisers, gives donor perspectives and examines the challenges that fundraisers face and how to overcome them. In the last part of this book, Harvey looks at some of the ways that highly effective fundraisers motivate themselves to win every time and segues into a brief discussion about becoming a leader in this industry.
The book concludes with some practical tips on making a successful fundraising career happen.
Harvey Green currently serves as Vice President and Chief Philanthropy Officer at MedStar Washington Hospital Center and leads fundraising efforts within the MedStar Heart and Vascular Institute.
Prior to MedStar, Green was a Senior Director of Development at the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences at Johns Hopkins University. While there, he managed a team of fundraising professionals during a seven-year, $6 billion institutional-wide campaign. Prior to Hopkins, Green served as Executive Director at the University of Florida Health Science Center and UF College of Medicine where he raised philanthropic dollars for the new medical education building. Additionally, Green worked at UC San Diego Medical Center and in higher education at Boston College.
Before a career in philanthropy, Green worked in corporate sales and business development and has owned and operated a health and fitness franchise.
Green is a former commissioned officer in the United States Marine Corps, where he facilitated the logistics behind air delivery support for combat operations. He is an avid fitness enthusiast and was an amateur ranked kickboxer in the Marines.
Harvey Green is dedicated to mentoring fundraising professionals and is enthusiastic about teaching, speaking, and coaching on the topic.
