Description

The Air Force can be the initial platform of a lifelong career pathway for individuals interested in serving one contract or those who stay on active-duty for a full career. The education and certification options available to airmen can enhance the career viability of those who choose to take advantage of the benefits, but learning about and navigating the possibilities can be difficult. From the Air Force to College: Transitioning from the Service to Higher Education is designed to help readers navigate through this process and to assist them throughout their Air Force journey, including individuals who are just about to join, active-duty airmen, and those preparing to transition back into the civilian sector. This book serves as the go-to guide for those who actively seek opportunities to further develop their education and improve their current and future career prospects. The Air Force offers many different opportunities for career-enhancement and self-betterment, but if an airman does not know whom to seek out for advice, the process can get complicated. Plus, deciphering the world of higher education and navigating the available active-duty and veterans benefits is challenging. Incorrect choices can mean extended periods of time backtracking later on or running out of payment options.

Reviews

Ventrone and Hollis got it right! Finally, a comprehensive guide that unleashes the potential of every Airmen by helping them throughout their Air Force educational journey. The book From the Air Force to College: Transitioning from the Service to Higher Education does a fantastic job at explaining the vast educational benefits, programs and resources provided to Airmen. Without a doubt, Ventrone and Hollis should be standard publication issued to every trainee and a hard copy presented to every attendee participating in a Transition Assistance Program (TAP) workshop. This insightful guide is exactly what is needed to help Airmen achieve their full potential. -- Eric Jaren, USAF (retired)
One-stop-shop is a phrase one hears quite often in higher education circles with purpose to streamline the maze associated with pursuing a college education. Jillian Ventrone and Andrew Hollis have masterfully provided Airmen a one-stop-shop guide that transitions Airmen through that maze when Airmen choose to move from the Air Force to higher education. Their guide will stand the test of time and one which no Airmen will want to be without. Well done! -- Carl E. Collins, USAF (Ret) & Enrollment Director, Troy University Montgomery Alabama Campus
From the Air Force to College is excellent! Jillian Ventrone and Andrew Hollis talk about early on to the end. I would hope that there is one place holder within our Service on all these topics. We are the best in the Air Force when discussing Force Development, but even with that we will not know everything that is going on with all the changes that occur. While we are all different, if it is not important to the individual at this time education certainly will down the road. -- CMSgt Al Velez, Senior Enlisted Advisor For Defense Activity For Non-Traditional Education Support (DANTES)
Tremendous thought provoking questions with comprehensive solutions to the puzzle of military education. No stone unturned. Thorough and user-friendly guide to the numerous opportunities and paths for successfully pursing your education as a military member or Vet. Easy, logical and comprehensive guide that affords military members and Vets numerous paths that best fit their educational needs. Seven years retired now and without question this guide would have drastically improved my ability to choose the right benefit for the right path for my education! -- Martin R. Dempsey, USAF (retired)
