Angola knew warfare from 1961-2002. Over time it evolved from a civil war between local combatants into an international war involving the United States, Soviet Union/Russia, Cuba, South Africa and numerous African nations. However, Angola has moved on from the long period of warfare.
Historical Dictionary of Angola, Fourth Edition updates some of the historical, colonial period, war for independence, and civil war material. However, concentration was focused upon the period from 2002 until 2025. The Dictionary has extensive coverage of the economy, health, education, growth and development, the arts, including literature, music , theater, and cinema. The entries on religion, women, foreign relations, new personalities, and politics have also been expanded. The bibliography also reflects this focus with special emphasis on internet sites that deal with Angola or have factual or statistical information.
