Enjoy the original ideas and heroes of the Greeks: the developers of philosophy, history, drama, geometry, architecture, and science. Their achievements have had an immeasurable impact on the world today. Becoming Greece weaves together an exciting narrative with extensive passages from Greek historians and eyewitnesses, covering the Bronze Age, the Persian Wars, the Peloponnesian War, and Alexander the Greats spread of Hellenistic culture. Experience each polis (city-state) from the inside: their values, their political and societal structures, their victories, and their defeats. Hundreds of images, maps, and diagrams are provided, so that even a beginner can thoroughly appreciate the accomplishments of these intellectual pioneers.
William Dardis began his Classical education in his hometown of New Orleans and continued it at the University of Notre Dame. He has educated teenagers of all socioeconomic backgrounds for the past 30 years, in New York, St. Louis, Chicago and Washington, D.C. He has particularly enjoyed teaching at the Heights for over a dozen years, and looks forward to many more. Born and raised in Southern California, Tom Cox attended Hillsdale College in Michigan. In the summer of 2019, he completed a Master's Degree in Liberal Arts at St. John's College in Annapolis. Being a Johnnie sharpened his pedagogy while expanding the tools he uses in the classroom, from seminars to oral exams. He lives in Northern Virginia with his wife, Nicole, and five children.
