S. M. Burke was a professor and consultant in South Asian Studies at the University of Minnesota. He was previously a judge in the Indian Civil Service and Minister, Ambassador, or High Commissioner for Pakistan in eleven different countries. He combined the insight of a man of affairs and the perspective of a scholar. He is also the author of Pakistans Foreign Policy: A Historical Analysis (Oxford University Press).
