Description

In the 1930s Orwell was sent by a socialist book club to investigate the appalling mass unemployment in the industrial north of England. He went beyond his assignment to investigate the employed as well - 'to see the most typical section of the English working class.' AUTHOR: George Orwell (1903-1950) was born in India and served with the Imperial Police in Burma before joining the Republican Army in the Spanish Civil War. Orwell was the author of six novels as well as numerous essays and nonfiction works.

Author Bio

George Orwell was the pen name of Eric Blair, a writer and political commentator. In 2008, THE TIMES ranked him second on a list of 'The 50 greatest British writers since 1945.' His work continues to influence popular and political culture. Tamsin Greig., Nicky Henson and Toby Jones star in this new drama.
