Description

A thorough, balanced compilation, this book is the first comprehensive annotated bibliography on Alabama since 1898. Four authors provide an interdisciplinary approach representing the fields of history, geography, political science, literature, American studies, and library science. Although political, military, and socioeconomic history are well represented, numerous entries on agriculture, art, education, environment, folklore, law, literature, medicine, newspapers, religion, and travel are also included. The bibliography is arranged chronologically by periods in Alabama history with topical subdivisions under each period. Concise but descriptive annotations supplement the titles to delimit the time, place, and topical focus of the individual entry.

Reviews

"Alabama History: An Annotated Bibliography is by far the most important work published on Alabama history in the last hundred years. Few if any scholars will try to complete a paper about any subject in Alabama history without consulting this work."-Kenneth R. Johnson Professor Emeritus University of North Alabama
"Encyclopedic in scale...[this bibliography] will be invaluable to scholars interested in any aspect of Alabama history or culture."-Wayne Flynt Auburn University
It would be impossible to overemphasize the value of the entire series. Every volume in it that this reviewer has seen is excellent. This particular addition is certainly no exception. It is the beginning point for investigation of almost any aspect of Alabama's past.-ARBA
The authors understand the thought patterns and needs of historical professionals. They are to be commended, for example, for grasping the importance of law reviews as source of information....Such comprehensive coverage comes from pooling the talents of the four compilers and makes their work a valuable tool.-The Alabama Review
