A narrative overview of each event, the text of carefully selected primary source documents representing a variety of opposing views on each issue, and ready reference materials will help students to understand the conflicting issues behind these events. The documents provide insight into the views of people involved in the decisions, actions, and criticisms of each event covered. MITCHEL ROTH is associate professor of criminal justice at Sam Houston State University. He is a historian of criminal justice and of the American West. He has written seven books including Historical Dictionary of Law Enforcement (Greenwood, 2000), Historical Dictionary of War Journalism (Greenwood, 1997), Fulfilling a Mandate (1997), Reading the American West (1999), and Crime and Punishment: A History of Criminal Justice (forthcoming 2002).
