Description

Since the mid-1990s, Cary Clack has captured the hearts and minds of Texans and gained a national reputation as an incisive and sensitive journalist, and developed a significant following as a much-loved editorial columnist. Originally from San Antonio, he worked with the Martin Luther King Jr. Center for Nonviolent Change (writing CNN commentaries for Coretta Scott King) to hone his communications skills and broadened his social sensibilities. Returning to his hometown he quickly became known as a writer who profiled everyday heroes in the community, captured stories unique to the Texas experience, and added a critical local perspective to national news stories. Throughout, his columns are infused with a sense of humility on his part and a keen look into the humanness in others, shining a light on the commonalities we share rather than the walls we allow to divide us.

Following sixteen years as a journalist, Clack pursued his interests in politics and social policy and service, including work with the mayor of San Antonio, U.S. Congressman Joaquin Castro, and others.

More Finish Lines to Crossin 2014. It includes more than 80 writings about the big issues of the day, from Donald Trump, Joe Biden, and the war in Ukraine to the impacts of COVID, the death of George Floyd, and the mass shooting of school children in Uvalde, Texas. Along the way we meet the people who influenced him greatly, reminding us all to pause and reflect on how we become the people we are and what inspires us to give back and be better members of our communities.
