HERBERT T. HOOVER is Professor of History, University of South Dakota and the author of numerous publications on South Dakota and the Sioux. KAREN P. ZIMMERMAN is public historian and Archivist, University of South Dakota./e Ms. Zimmerman's publications focus on the archeology of the region.
