Description

If you had a chance to speak to the Pope, what would you say This is the question that 13 noted Holocaust scholarsChristians of various denominations and Jews (including some Holocaust survivors)address in this volume. The Holocaust was a Christian as well as a Jewish tragedy; nonetheless, the Roman Catholic hierarchy has offered very little official discourse on the Church's role in it. These essays provide solid constructive criticism and make a major contribution to both Holocaust and Christian studies.

Reviews

The essays are balanced and they are couched in the politest of terms. But they raise questions that should not be ignored....we read these open letters, not gleefully, not with a sense of: good, give it to them! but with a sense of hope. Perhaps this time the questions will be heard. Perhaps this time the questions will be answered.-The Jewish Journal of South Florida

The issues of the Holocaust and its implications for Christian-Jewish relations are articulated powerfully in the book, and it certainly should be in every collection of Judaica.-AJL Newsletter
