Author Bio

Josephine Brown (18391874) was an African American writer and youngest daughter of abolitionist and lecturer, William Wells Brown. She was raised in Massachusetts where she was educated, alongside her sister, at a boarding school. During her youth, Josephine would attend her fathers many speaking engagements. She eventually joined him in his efforts as a teacher and antislavery lecturer. In an effort to preserve Williams legacy, Josephine wrote Biography of an American Bondman, which was published in 1855.
