This official three-volume centenary history is to be published during 1993/1994. The first volume, "The University Movement in Wales" by J. Gwynn Williams, will be published in November 1993; Volumes II and III by J. Gwynn Williams and Prys Morgan, respectively, will follow in 1994. It was with a sense of pride and conviction that the founding fathers of the University of Wales created a national institution "in and for Wales" in 1893. This volume celebrates the centenary of the University by recalling the foundation and early days. It casts a critical eye on an institution which was reputed at its inception to represent "the soul of the nation".
Emeritus Professor J Gwynn Williams CBE DLitt is the author of The University of Wales, 1839-1939.
