Description

A must-have title for any practitioner working in data protection law or who want to ensure they are au fait with the subject as it affects all areas of modern life. Upon the application of GDPR in May 2018, data protection has moved to the centre of discussions about the role and regulation of personal information in Irelands economy and society. Ireland hosts the EU headquarters of many of the worlds largest technology firms, ranging from Facebook to Tik-Tok. It is also home to the EU headquarters for a variety of financial services firms including banks, insurance companies and hedge funds. As well as international trade, Ireland has its own government, health and educational sectors. All of these sectors process personal data, which is subject to GDPR and other data protection laws and this title will ensure you are fully updated on this complex area of law. In the six years since Denis Kellehers second edition of Data Protection and Privacy Law in Ireland was published, we have seen the application of GDPR and the enactment of the Data Protection Act 2018. There have been a significant number of decisions from the EU Court of Justice (Shrems II), the Irish High Court (Facebook v DPC) and the UK Supreme Court (Lloyd v Google), all of which are analysed in this title..
