From a classic chocolate sponge to lemon meringue pie, award-winning baker Sophie Grey's book on the latest baking craze brings you all manner of delicious whoopies. With a cream cheese filling and a frosted top, whoopies are set to take over from cupcakes in a big way. Thought to have originated in the Amish communities of America (the farmers would open their lunch boxes to cries of 'Whoopie!' when they saw that their wives had included them as treats), they are now setting a trend in cities like New York and London, and are poised to take over the rest of the UK! Sophie's must have book includes over 70 whoopie recipes from classics like a mini Victoria sponge, to a whole range of chocolate and fruit-based whoopies, with sections on celebration and wacky whoopies too - perfect for birthday parties and get-togethers. Complete with all the fillings and frostings you need, you'll also find over 30 delicious cupcake recipes, including Sophie's award-winning lemon drizzle cupcake.
Sophie Gray's first forays into cooking were at school, cooking for 6th form parties, and at university where she would cook dinner parties for 20 or more while her peers were in the student bar. After college she started modelling, then in 1990 a friend asked her to cook a party for a friend of hers. The friend turned out to be Simon Cowell, who adored her food. Thinking catering was a good business and using her model friends to serve the food, Sophie set up the catering company Model Catering and has been catering for the film, music and property industries since. In March 2009 she set up the Crazy Baker bakery and has been delivering to restaurants and cafs throughout the west London area ever since. She lives in London with her husband and two sons.
