The Pear Aficionado examines the unassuming and often under appreciated pear from orchard to table where it steals home plate with its flavor and versatility. With recipes for both the novice and intermediate home chef, the book showcases the fruit in an impressive variety of dishes ranging from fresh pear salads, to a pear quiche and a Caramelized pear mock souffl, a simple pear and berry galette, pear tarts, tortes, scones, and Chocolate Pear Biscotti, to Pear Salad Croissants, Salmon with Pear Marmalade and Balsamic Vinegar Reduction, and a tangy Grilled Pear and Swiss Reuben with Spicy Mustard Aioli. You might just discover pears are your favorite fruit after all!
Once correspondent for a western newspaper, Lori Nawyn wrote about topics of historic interest such as the nation's first transcontinental railroad and the early history of snow travel in North America. She later embraced her passion for art, food, and wellness as she pursued her desire to illustrate children's books, collect favorite recipes, and begin healing from personal trauma. She is the author of the novel My Gift to You, and of the inspirational book for girls and women Fill Your Day with Hope and the forthcoming Simple Things. Her essays, articles, and short stories have appeared in print and online publications including Outside Bozeman, Segullah, the SCBWI Bulletin, Country Woman, Country Extra, City Lights, Lighthouse, Sagacity, and Vantage, as well as in six anthologies. She is the illustrator of the award-winning book What Are You Thinking and of Love, Hugs, and Hope: When Scary Things Happen. The Pear Aficionado is her third cookbook with Familius following Peachy: A Harvest of Fruity Goodness and The Great American Family Reunion Cookbook.
