Katsuji Tanabe always knew he wanted to be a chef; however, he had no idea hed end up a kosher, celebrity chef.
After working his way up in restaurants around Los Angeles, Tanabe was hired as the head chef at Shilohs Kosher Steakhouse. This position demanded him to get creative with his dishes, and this challenge resulted in unique, delicious, original menus.
The skills he developed in the kitchen were soon put to the test in front of the camera, as Tanabe became a Chopped champion, a regular on NBCs Food Fighters, and a contestant on Season 12 of Bravos Top Chef. Off-camera, Tanabe focused on opening Mexikosher, one of the most popular Kosher restaurants in the United States.
In Mexikosher, Tanabe presents many dishes from his restaurant, as well as original appetizers, soups, mains, sides, and desserts inspired by Mexican tradition that are 100 percent kosher. These include apricot and habanero glazed chicken wings, roasted chestnut and chipotle stew, empanadas, pequito peppers stuffed with spicy tuna tartare, chorizo and duck cassulet with fava beans, gorditas de carno, Mexico City fish tacos, and more.
Skyhorse Publishing, along with our Good Books and Arcade imprints, is proud to publish a broad range of cookbooks, including books on juicing, grilling, baking, frying, home brewing and winemaking, slow cookers, and cast iron cooking. Weve been successful with books on gluten-free cooking, vegetarian and vegan cooking, paleo, raw foods, and more. Our list includes French cooking, Swedish cooking, Austrian and German cooking, Cajun cooking, as well as books on jerky, canning and preserving, peanut butter, meatballs, oil and vinegar, bone broth, and more. While not every title we publish becomes a New York Times bestseller or a national bestseller, we are committed to books on subjects that are sometimes overlooked and to authors whose work might not otherwise find a home.
"I would say to anyone visiting L.A. who requires a kosher diet that Mexikosher is an absolute must visit, right up there on the vacation itinerary with Disneyland and the Hollywood sign." --Rabbi Rabbs, comedian
