Professional chef Madalene Bonvini-Hamel has worked in some of the country's finest restaurants, including Aubergine (as part of Gordon Ramsay's brigade), Restaurant Gordon Ramsay, and Amaryllis at Claridges, as well as working under Michel Roux Jr at Le Gavroche and Rowley Leigh at Kensington Place. The British Larder was founded and created by Madalene and her partner Ross Pike, starting with the website of the same name in 2008 and followed by The British Larder, Suffolk Pub and Restaurant in 2010. The brand gave them an outlet to share and show off their love of seasonal produce, pairing ingredients, flavours and textures in new and exciting ways and, most importantly, working closely with local British producers and farmers. They quickly came to the attention of every serious food critic and institution, landing acclaim from many. The website and The British Larder, Suffolk laid the foundations for the creation of the award-winning cookbook The British Larder: a Cookbook for all Seasons. The entire book is a labour of love and a dedication to British seasonal produce, as nature intended. In 2012 Madalene was awarded Best Female Chef for the cookbook by Gourmand International. Madalene and Ross not only wrote, developed and created the mouth-watering seasonal recipes, but they also styled and took all the photos themselves. Following the closure of the pub and restaurant Madalene worked as a well-respected New Product Development Chef for some of the countrys leading brands and supermarkets. Pushing boundaries and innovation, and always championing British seasonal produce.
