Description

Our Village Kitchen was cooked up by a group of parents to raise funds for the local primary, Raumati South School. The aim was to create a book which captured the heart and soul of the school and community, with Kiwi classics alongside international favourites. Our village Raumati South is nestled between the coast and the Tararua ranges, about an hours drive north of the capital, Wellington. Built on the dunes of the long expanse of sunset facing beaches of the Kpiti Coast, it boasts a classic Kiwi beach lifestyle. But its the community here that make this place truly sing neighbours with paths between their houses and their hearts. A place of shared feasts, of homemade biscuits left in tins on porches, of summer barbecues, of shared seasonal garden treats, and impromptu twilight swims. Many in the community have wandered far and wide across this country and globe before stumbling on its unassuming charm and finding in it a place they can call home. The children at Raumati South School are fortunate to have large green grounds where they can roam and adventure. Theres also a bike track, fruit trees, veggie gardens and a swimming pool. To support their school, the call for recipes was put out ancient family hand-written recipe books were dusted off, great grandmas consulted, scribbled chef notes handed over, and taste buds tested. The result is a culinary and visual delight, brimming with treasured recipes direct from the hearts and homes of local families, Kpiti Coast chefs and eateries, presented alongside enticing photographs of the food, school community and our unique coastal landscape.
