Description

What can we do in our own backyards to help protect and foster our precious native wildlife

This beautifully illustrated and photographed guide by writer and gardener Jaclyn Crupi shows us how we can all create gardens that are a haven for native wildlife.
The first step: start planting - and choose native plants where possible. From there, you'll find that opportunities for habitat creation are endless, and often it's the small actions that make a big difference. Providing a well-placed dish of water on a hot day or allowing leaf litter to stay where it falls are among the many simple ways you can make your garden more attractive to birds, bees and butterflies, which in turn benefits all species.
Here you'll find loads of practical advice and detailed planting plans for front and backyards, verges, balconies, rooftops and other shared spaces (because native wildlife really doesn't mind where it finds habitat). Plus there's a pictorial guide to help you identify your new friends when they visit.

Includes conversations and insights from other beloved Australian garden experts (Jac Semmler, Sam Cox, Hannah Moloney and Clarence Slocklee) in a standout hardback package.

Author Bio

Jaclyn Crupi is an avid gardener who delights in discovering new visitors to her rambling native habitat garden, and who has converted the tennis court at her Mornington Peninsula home into a glorious sprawling productive space in honour of said passion. Her greatest loves are gardening, reading and cooking, and she is grateful to combine them as an author, book editor, book reviewer (find her on Instagram @jaclyncrupi) book event host and bookseller at Melbourne's iconic Hill of Content bookshop. Her recent book Garden Like a Nonno was shortlisted for an Indie Book Award and longlisted for an ABIA, and its sister publication Nonna Knows Best continues to delight new readers too. Her most recent children's book, The ABC Kids Guide to Loving the Planet, won the Environment Award for Children's Literature. Jaclyn's work has also appeared in The Guardian, SBS Voices, At Home, The Canberra Times, Galah, Slow and Frankie, as well as the anthology Family, published by Text Publishing.
