This book is published in collaboration with the Royal Collection, a unique art archive collected by the British royal family since 1660. It is comprised of more than a million objects, including Mark Catesby's publications and illustrations.
English naturalist Mark Catesby (1683-1749) is best known for his work The Natural History of Carolina, Florida and the Bahamas, in which he wrote about and illustrated the local flora and fauna. Over the course of his journeys across America, he documented uncountable varieties of animal and plant life that were previously unknown to Europeans. Many plants and animals have since been named after Catesby, including the American Bullfrog, Rana catesbeiana.
