In this fifth title in Hazel Blomkamps series on crewel embroidery with a twist, the focus is on animal portraits.Crewel Animal Portraitsis a celebration of Hazels signature techniques: a wide variety of surface/crewel stitches, some of which are brand new, and many with a different take, or different ways of combining stitches to make them more interesting.

Also included are needle lace techniques used as embroidery stitches, loom weaving techniques modified for embroidery, and unique combinations of both of these. The incorporation of beads and crystals adds even more dazzle to the intricate designs. The sumptuous and inspiring projects comprise a tiger, lion, zebra, giraffe, monkey and leopard.

Reviews

Hazel Blomkamp is back with a new book in the popular Crewel series. If you're hankering after big, complex, designs, these sumptuous animal portraits, often beautifully embellished with floral sections, should provide an enjoyable challenge. You'll use a wide variety of stitches, some of which are brand new, or a twist on traditional crewelwork, to bring to life a tiger, lion, zebra, giraffe, monkey and leopard.

* Stitch Magazine *

To add to her beautiful and vast collection, Hazel has now released another fabulous book that, this time, gives prominence to the tiger, lion, zebra, giraffe, monkey and leopard.

In and of themselves these animals are already spectacular subjects to stitch, but after they have received a Hazel Blomkamp Crewel Make Over were now talking next level stunning.

If youre looking for projects that are a pleasure and a joy to stitch, and a book title that will keep your non-stitching friends wondering what on earth you do in your spare time, Cruel, sorry, Crewel Animal Portraits is the book for you.

-- Inspirations * Inspirations, All Stitched Up! *

I have all of Hazel's books. This one is especially colorful and challenging. Her use of multiple types of stitches and flosses add texture and dimension to the work. An experienced stitcher will enjoy the designs as printed. Newer stitches will find alot here to inspire them and can work on smaller sections of the designs to gain experience. I encourage all needleworkers to add this to their libraries.
