Using the Japanese art of amigurumi, learn how to crochet 20 cute heroes and heroines! Not only will they become beloved keepsakes, they will also celebrate the lives of icons such as Jane Austen, Frida Khalo, Maya Angelou, Pablo Picasso, Muhammad Ali, and Bruce Lee. From World War 2 heroes such as Josephine Baker to talented musicians and actors including Prince and Audrey Hepburn, everyone will find a crocheted character in this book to inspire them.
Each project begins with a short description and lists the yarn type and colours used, but readers should feel free to use whichever brand and colours they prefer. The clear instructions are accompanied by a gorgeous photograph of the finished character and close-up photos demonstrating the trickier stages. At the end of the book you will find all the stitches and techniques needed to crochet the figures, all clearly illustrated with diagrams.
There are a few amigurumi crochet books similar to this one. Crocheting icons is a big thing I mention this because I prefer crochet designers who put there own style on a crochet person and Orsi Farkasvolgyi does this beautifully. So well in fact that I chose to hook up Maya Angelou, one of my personal heroes.
There are lots more to choose from, perhaps you fancy hooking up Prince or Rita Moreno. How about Coco Chanel from her Deauville days or even Jane Goodall One of the reasons to admire this book is the diverse choice of heroes! You can find more of Orsis work on instagram @manuskacrochet
Why I like this book:
The patterns are clearly written and easy to follow and there is a useful set of instructions at the back of the book showing how each stitch used is constructed. There are a number of "heroes" included but with a little imagination and skill the patterns could be customised to a character of choice. Illustrations are excellent.
