Combining ink with dry coloured pencil is an innovative technique that integrates two very different media, resulting in rich and detailed work. This beautiful book looks at different methods of mark-making in ink and a repertoire of coloured pencil techniques, then explains how to work with them together successfully. Drawing on the author's love of the countryside and its plant communities, it shows how the technique can be used to interpret the landscape in a new and highly individual way. Packed with step-by-step sequences and finished examples, this book will encourage beginners to get started and inspire artists looking for a new direction. AUTHOR: Helen Hanson is an experienced artist and tutor. As a professional printmaker, she exhibited her landscape etchings in galleries and exhibitions throughout the UK. She was a council member of the Society of Women Artists and is a fellow of the Society of Botanical Artists. 203 colour illustrations
When this arrived, I felt the need to create a new term for the style and came up with Soft Realism. Thats to say: detailed, sharp outlines in ink with a more impressionistic background supplied with pleasantly subtle pencil work. Its not pen & wash because pencils capture a lot more detail as well as graduation and shading. Theres no shortage of books on coloured pencil work, but this is, I think, unique and Helen Hanson explains both her aims and working methods thoroughly. -- Henry Malt, The Artist * The Artist *
