Reviews

As ever in the Ready to Paint series there are tracings of the artworks used in the book so that the student can concentrate on the techniques used. This is useful for those people who worry about getting the drawings right before even picking up a paintbrush - this way they can concentrate on the painting part and have fun. That's what arts about for many of us isn't it I've not read one of Keiths books before but he has a very cheery easy to follow style. He uses his own range of paints and brushes in this book but its easy to find standard ones the same so no need to purchase new ones unless you need to. I like the way he does his trees - so often n books they look very standardisedA" but Keiths have a natural look about them. I love the rocks that feature in many of the paintings and as a main part of one in beautiful colours but I would have liked to see more details on how these are done. There is detail on them but not in any great form and I think it would be useful to see more close ups of this technique, but I suppose that might come in a Rocks and Mountains book later :o) Water adds so much to a painting whether its the main subject or a tiny stream in one corner that to get it right means you feel a sense of achievement and having practised the water in its various forms in this book you'll feel up to the challenge of creating your own water painting.-JeannieZelos.com
