Wabi-Sabi Welcome applies the basic principles of the wabi-sabi aesthetic to modern entertaining. Its about being attentive to your guests (listen without being distracted; unplug), creating a welcoming environment (leave the door unlocked; make time to be together), choosing modest dcor (dishes and furniture made from materials that endure, such as wood or clay), decorating with nature (with an emphasis on foraged, not store-bought, blooms), finding beauty in imperfections (wrinkled linen napkins, along with a relaxed attitude about late-coming guests), and much more. The book is organised into chapters of five locationsJapan, Denmark, California, France, and Italyplaces where the approach to home dcor and entertaining best reflects wabi-sabi principles. The book is complete with lush photography and practical checklists.
In her new book, entertaining guru Julie Pointer Adams celebrates wabi-sabi, the zen philosophy that encourages us to chill out and enjoy the moment.

Gorgeous. . . . Illustrates how we can approach our homes and time spent with friends and family with the wabi-sabi state of mind. . . . Simply paging through this book makes me feel soothed and delighted. And I love how the books Japanese binding allows it to lay flat, no matter what page its open to. Simple pleasures, indeed.

An antidote to the veneer of perfectionism so often presented by books of its kind, Wabi-Sabi Welcome offers readers license to slow down and host guests with humility, intention, and contentment.
Nathan Williams, founder of Kinfolk
Wabi-Sabi Welcome is a beautiful book. It reminds us of that which is most important: a slower pace, a genuine spirit, and time with the people we care for. Julies writing is perfectly balanced and down-to-earth, and the photos, recipes, and stories inspire us to live well and thoughtfully.
Karen Mordechai, author of Sunday Suppers
Quite simply, Julies take on entertaining is a primer on how to be a genuine, thoughtful friend. She has always embodied effortless grace and humility for me, and Im grateful to have been the recipient of her little beam of light over the years. She demystifies that same magic for us now.

Julie Pointer Adams grew up in Santa Barbara, California, where backyard barbecues, perpetually open doors, and picnics at the beach strongly shaped her sense of what intimate, casual entertaining should be. A background in the studio arts and literature led her to pursue a master of fine arts in environment design, specifically exploring how spaces can better connect us and provide a sense of belongingespecially through sharing our homes and eating together. Having developed and managed Kinfolk magazines original dinner and workshop series alongside editor Nathan Williams for several years, Julie has planned, hosted, and overseen hundreds of both small and not-so-small gatherings all over the world. Julie currently resides in Santa Barbara with her husband, Ryan, in a tiny, light-filled artist's studio, where they love to cook together, take photographs, host friends, and lounge in the sun.
