There is much wisdom and many a laugh to be found in this delightful collection of Australian sayings. The play of humour, practical good sense and irony locates them unmistakably in this country, and in the particular habits of mind of people in the bush. Brian Dibble and Jim Evans, both of them teachers and farmers, have collected bush sayings over many years and from all over the place - from newspapers, advertisements, songs, books, colleagues and friends, and just talking with people. And Richard Woldendorp's spare, evocative photographs perfectly enrich and complement the text.
Brian Dibble holds a Personal Chair in Comparative Literature at Curtin University, and his cattle have won ribbons at the Perth Royal Show. Jim Evans is Professor Emeritus of Journalism and Agricultural Communications at the University of Illinois, helps run a family farm, and has collected rural humour since he was a boy. Richard Woldendorp's photographs of landscape have won so many awards and been collected and published so widely that he is now a Western Australian 'State Living Treasure'.
