He has been nominated for a number of AFI, Logie, AACTA, Auggie and Directors Guild awards and even won some of them. He enjoys wind farming and has written six books. Gary McCaffrieturned his back on a career editing Industrial Commission transcripts in Tasmania to try writing comedy for television. He has tried writing it forFast Forward,Full Frontal,Jimeoin,The Micallef P(r))ogram(me),Micallef TonightandShaun Micallefs Mad As Hell, along with several other less revered shows that IMDb insists on listing. He is the only TV comedy writer to be a gold member of the West Adelaide Football Club, and still feels the pull of the Tasmanian public service.
