Birdie Bear's Bad Day is based on the adventures of black bear cub triplets that were born in Yellowstone National Park in 2017. The author spent hours watching the triplets and their mother play and learn. Birdie's brothers were bigger and stronger than she was and often picked on her, but it did not dampen her curiosity and spunk. The story describes one day in particular where Birdie, just like a little child, got into trouble and had some scary moments, but learned from her mother. Birdie's story is told using the author's photographs and observations and provides insight into the lives of baby bear cubs. The book will bring a little of the wild to young children not able to watch black bears in a natural setting, and will be a wonderful reminder for those families who have visited one of the national parks.
Jodi Traub is a retired grandmother of twelve, who loves nature and all creatures. She and her husband, Rich, are geologists and spend time each year in Yellowstone National Park or Jasper National Park in Alberta, Canada, observing and photographing animals. She loves telling her grandchildren these true stories of animal adventures, especially bears. At home, their wildflower garden has provided a welcome environment for birds, Hummingbirds and butterflies, inspiring more stories of adventure. Jodi lives in Yorkville, Illinois, with her husband.
