Description

Many dog owners struggle to manage their dogs, and the vast majority of people who need help have one simple but overwhelming problem. Their dog won't come back when they call him. Through focusing on this single and most important of obedience commands, Pippa Mattinson shows the dog owner whether of a puppy or an adult dog how to build up a reliable recall successfully, layer by layer, and step by step, using effective and positive training techniques. The author offers the reader an insight into the mind of the dog and explains exactly why dogs behave in the way that they do. Training exercises are described in unique detail, and with the inclusion of a helpful problem solving section, nothing is left to chance. Total Recall is much more than a recall training book. It is a detailed reference and guide to canine behaviour and dog training that will fascinate dog owners in the UK and abroad. AUTHOR: Pippa Mattinson is the founder of the UK's national gundog graded training scheme, and a director of the Gundog Trust. She has a degree in zoology and a special interest in canine behaviour. Pippa has over thirty years experience of training dogs and is the author of the Gundog Club's popular graded training books.

Reviews

I've no hesitation in recommending Total Recall to anyone setting out on training a puppy for the first time, or even the tenth time. It is a book that is likely both to change attitudes and lead to more sympathetic training, which is no bad thing.
This book explains everything you need to know about the recall, from how and when to effectively reward your dog, to keeping yourself motivated to keep up the training, as well as a series of progressive exercises. Checklists are included at the end of each stage to help you assess whether you are ready to move on to the next. There are troubleshooting sections covering problems such as your dog returning to you but not coming close enough to be caught, and how to detect early warning signings that all is not well with your recall. Rating 10/10
The book's strength lies in clear, engaging writing and, in particular, in its structured exercises designed to build a recall from scratch.
If you have a dog who doesn't really think you're that important and refuses to come back when called, this is definitely a book for you. The whole publication is focused specifically on recall, in various situations, and has many useful tips on what you need to help train your dog, as well as a section on how dogs learn and what techniques you should avoid using ... It is filled with good simple advice which will make training your dog a lot easier. Definitely recommended... * Shooting & Conservation Magazine *
