Description

This quirky, creative tribute to friendship features illustrations from 60 contemporary artists from around the world, each inspired by a quote or saying about friendship, which accompanies the art. Unexpected, artsy, and a bit offbeat, this distinctive gift book offers a fresh take on this timeless subject. Sixty international, prize-winning artists put a fresh visual spin on the many facets and values of friendship in this quirky, contemporary combination of pictures and words. Each artist has chosen and illustrated a quotation they find particularly inspiring and personally meaningful, resulting in a selection of lesser-known quotes and surprising sayings, from Chilean novelist Roberto Bolano to Senagalese feminist and writer Mariam B, sports announcer Ed Cunningham, Mark Twain, Muriel Barbery, Ethel Barrymore, and many others. The art styles range from sweet to graphic, abstract, cartoon, graphic novel, representational, collage, and more. In a beautiful gift package, with a foreword by Lydia Denworth, author of the acclaimed book Friendship, the honest, heartfelt-with-attitude approach of You & Me Are So Nice Together is the perfect antidote to the overly sentimental odes to the enduring and never-more-important gift of friendship. Two pull-out postcards featuring art from the book are included as a bonus feature. AUTHOR: Lydia Denworth is the author of Friendship: The Evolution, Biology, and Extraordinary Power of Life's Fundamental Bond, as well as a contributing editor for Scientific American and blogger for Psychology Today. Her work is supported by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, and she lives in Brooklyn, NY. SELLING POINTS: . The pairing of an eclectic range of original illustrations by an outstanding group of contemporary editorial illustrators paired with lesser-known quotes and sayings about friendship make this an inventive, playful tribute to friendship, a trending topic in this time of social isolation and disconnectness . Hailing from Spain, Poland, Sweden, France, China, Chile, Italy, Canada and beyond, each artist selected a quote or saying that spoke to them and created an original illustration for this collection. The result is a delightfully surprising range of styles, imagery, and mediums . With an introduction by the acclaimed author of Friendship, Lydia Denworth, and a notably distinctive selection of quotes and art styles, this beautifully produced book makes a meaningful and collectible tribute to all kinds of friendship
