The Peak District embraces the most southerly parts of the Pennines, thereby marking the transition from lowland to highland England. It includes the Peak National Park, which is the first area to be so designated in the whole of England and Wales. The landscape comprises two strongly contrasting elements: the gritstone of the Dark Peak and the lighter limestone of the White Peak, eachcreating unique textures and hues for the photographer.
