This is a companion volume to A Guide to Fairs and Festivals in the United States. It covers seventy-five countries, including all of Canada, Central and South America, Eastern and Western Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Asia, the Pacific, and the Far-East. Listings are arranged alphabetically, first by country, then by province or territory for Canada and state, city and/or town for the rest. Most names are in English. Each entry provides the name of the festival, time frequency amd month(s), type(s), year of origin, historic sketch, purpose, special features, any special buildings, and a description of the related events, performances, etc. Information was gathered from questionnaires mailed to thousands of festival organizers, government and city tourist bureaus throughout the world. Mrs. Shemanski's experience as newspaper editor and compiler of calenders of events for many newspapers and magazines put her in touch with many festivals and helped in the compiling of this excellent guide. The festivals and other events covered include cultural programs, sports, religious events, humor, agriculture, flowers, New Year's celebrations, historic events, and patriotic observances.' Major festival/events and smaller but important ones were selected. An appendix of fairs and festivals by type of event plus general events calender of fairs, festivals, and other events are also included. General index. Recommended for large public libraries.-Reference Book Review
