Another hiking book "Gentle Hikes: Northern Wisconsin's Most Scenic Lake Superior Hikes Under 3 Miles" by Ladona Tornabene, Melanie Morgan and Lisa Vogesang (Adventure Publishing: $12.99): Anyone traveling to the Northern Wisconsin-Lake Superior area will find this book helpful. It tells you how to get there, whether you'll find toilets once you arrive and what you will see on the hikes. - William R. Winek, e--WILLIAM R WINEKE"Wisconsin State Journal" (07/25/2004)
BOOK REVIEW "Gentle Hikes" by Ladona Tornabene, Melanie Morgan and Lisa Vogelsang (Adventure_ Publications, $12.95) When it comes to hiking, descriptions can be subjective. An "easy" hike to one person may be difficult to someone else. The folks behind "Gentle Hikes," though, have assembled details of about 50 hikes in northern Wisconsin's Lake Superior region that are just less than 3 miles - and suitable for everyone, even small children, seniors and the physically challenged. The trail descriptions are very detailed (how steep the inclines are, for example) and are rated accordingly.--Scott Goihl"St Paul Pioneer PressGreen Bay Press" (09/19/2004)
Why not give some state flavor: For less taxing pursuits Adventure Publications offers "Gentle Hikes" ($12:95), a guide covering nearly 50 hikes that are under three miles in length, along with information on parks, scenic areas and picnic places. All of the sites included are near Lake Superior, so you'll have a long scenic drive to make before your short scenic walk. That would be a gift in itself.
