Beginning at a young age, Cristen began to explore Americafirst on road trips with her mother, traveling from Seattle to Key West, then on her own by Greyhound bus and Amtrak train. The American landscape, with its roadside cafes, strip malls, and wanderers, figures prominently in her fiction.
