Description

Combining breathtaking travel photography with compelling personal narratives, She Exploresshares the stories of women on unforgettable journeys women who live out of vans, trucks, and vintage trailers, exploring wild landscapes, cooking meals over campfires, and sleeping under the stars. Here are the stories of a mother raising her children on the road and crafting her own version of the 'American dream,' a firefighter discovering her true grit on the fire line, a young marathoner on a quest to become an Olympian, and a musical duo hiking with their instruments to perform concerts deep in the wilderness. Complementing the personal narratives are practical how-tos with advice for planning your own adventure, including tips for preparing for a solo hike, must-haves for a road-trip kitchen, and where to sleep on a road trip. Beautiful, empowering, and exhilarating, She Exploresis a celebration of female courage, self-reliance, and self-discovery, and a spirited invitation to explore the world on your own terms.

Reviews

"a series of odes to adventures in the wild told by nature-loving women-both beginners and badasses-and prepare to plot your own expedition. You'll find hard-won advice amid the captivating tales; as one notes, "taking a chance on the out- doors is always worth it." -- Shape
This month, author and photographer Gale Straub is releasing She Explores, 40 first-person tales from women inspired by their adventures. Highlights include a musical duo who play sunrise summit concerts (past audiences: Mount Pilchuck in Washington and the Monte Cristo Range in Utah); Sarah Attar, one of Saudi Arabia's first female Olympic athletes, who runs the backcountry trails of the Eastern Sierra; and Marine Malvar de Jesus, who swapped a career as a lawyer for the life of a mountain nomad. -- Cond Nast Traveller (UK)
