Description

Monographs on Australian lepidoptera is a series on the systematics and biology of the vast Australian fauna of moths and butterflies. It is the first series ever devoted to the Lepidoptera fauna of Australia and adjacent areas. Each monograph is hardcovered, and richly illustrated - often with colour. The volumes include taxonomic revisions, morphological studies, generic review of whole families or subfamilies, a review of the biology of Australian butterflies and a complete checklist of the Australian fauna; illustrated catalogues of several moth families are planned. An international editorial board and careful refereeing of all manuscripts guarantee the high scientific standard of this series. Volumes will appear at irregular intervals but at least one volume a year is planned. Australia has the richest fauna in the world of the Lepidoptera subfamily Oecophorinae - mallee moths; Australian Oecophorinae represent about a fifth of all Australian Lepidoptera and probably over 70% of the world fauna of the subfamily; first volume of three-volume monograph on the Australian fauna; first informative account of the biology and pest status of Australian genera; Australian species are largely dependent on Eucalyptus and other Myrtaceae; first modern taxonomic revision of the Wingia group - one-third of the Australian genera; Systematic treatment of 91 genera (35 described as new) of the Wingia group; Detailed account of the morphology and biology; With few exceptions Australian genera are endemic; 500 named species listed with full references, synonyms and distributions; Extensive illustrations of adult moths, venation, genitalia and other features; 140 key references listed; and fully indexed.
