Description

Over 200 photographs reveal the flying fox life cycle, from birth to old age, its feeding habits, intelligence, individuality and quirks. Grey-headed Flying-fox, or Pteropus poliocephalus is an Australian native mammal and his species does not live wild in any other country of the world. It plays a vital part in maintaining the health of forests along Australias eastern coast. It is crucial to the regeneration of our native hardwood forests and rainforests acting as pollinator and disperser of seeds as it feeds. Grey-headed Flying-foxes are the stars of this book, photographed mainly in the Bellingen area but they have a network of hundreds of camps on the east coast of Australia, a little way inland, and westward on the southern coast. They spend their lives moving about within this range.
