Martha M. Funnell, MS, RN, CDE, FAAN, is an Associate Research Scientist of Learning Health Sciences and an Adjunct Lecturer of Nursing. She received the American Diabetes Association Outstanding Educator in Diabetes Award, the Distinguished Service Award, and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Association of Diabetes Educators. Her areas of interests include patient empowerment, diabetes self-management education, and psychosocial support. In addition to over 170 peer-reviewed publications and more than 220 national and international presentations, Martha is the author or editor of 3 education curricula published by the American Diabetes Association, 5 books for healthcare professionals, a book for people with diabetes, and 25 book chapters. She has served as Chair of the National Diabetes Education Program and President, Health Care and Education of the American Diabetes Association.
