The final years of this century have seen sweeping changes in society, in health care and in the demographic make up of populations. Inevitably this has lead to changes in the type of health service that should (or can) be provided. Nursing has a crucial role to play in the necessary review of today's health care systems. This book explores the ways in which nurses can engage with and influence the formation of health policy now, and for the future.
DEBORAH HENNESSY has extensive experience in strategic and operational management in the UK NHS at a senior level. Previous posts include Chief Nurse at St Georges Hospital, London, and Chief Nurse of South West Thames Regional Health Authority. She has also many years of teaching experience, both in the UK and internationally. She is the editor of Developing Community Health Care published by Macmillan in 1997. PETER SPURGEON has worked in a number of different sectors but for the past 15 years has been in the university and health sector arena. He is an experienced health service researcher collaborating with a number of professional groups in research and consultancy projects. He has written and published widely in relation to health service reform and is the editor of Health Services Management Research, and a member of the board of Evidence Based Health Policy and Management.
