Seneca (4 B.C.--AD 65) was a Stoic philosopher, statesman, and dramatist best known for his contributions to the school of Stoicism. In his lifetime he published twelve philosophical essays--primarily on ethics--including De Providentia (On Providence), De Vita Beata (On the Happy Life), and De Consolatione ad Polybium (To Polybius, On Consolation); nine tragedies, and over one hundred letters on morals to Lucilius Junior known today as Letters From a Stoic.
