From that time early in his life his path was clear. Finally, on the last night of April, 1966Walpurgisnacht,the most important festival of the believers in witchcraftLaVey shaved his head in the tradition of Ancient executioners and announced the formation of The Church Of Satan. He had seen the need for a church that would recapture man's body and his carnal desires as objects of celebration."Since worship of fleshly things produces pleasure," he said, "there would then be a temple of glorious indulgence . . ."

Anton Szandor LaVey,[1] (April 11, 1930 - October 29, 1997) born Howard Stanton Levey, was the American founder and High Priest of the Church of Satan as well as a writer, occultist, and musician. He was the author of The Satanic Bible and the founder of LaVeyan Satanism, a synthesized system of his understanding of human nature and the insights of philosophers who advocated materialism and individualism, for which he claimed no "supernatural inspiration.
