Description

This is a very personal memoir of a failed marriage narrated by the then wife, who agonized over her marriage and endured great abuse from her husband in the form of lying, deception, isolation, false accusations, financial deprivation, cheating, and more. All the broken promises and the ensuing suffering are enumerated in great detail, and the reader feels a great deal of empathy for the wife. After a great deal of time, the narrator achieves some solace from pastoral counseling and groups of women who also have issues with their marriages and finds many friends and supporters. Finally, after all the years of extreme maltreatment, she begins to truly love God and to believe that what she lived through was preordained by him as a path that finally led her to free herself and commit herself totally to God and the church in a way she was unable to before. She attains her freedom in a long overdue divorce, forgives all those who acted against her, and begins a new life. The narration is smooth flowing and almost makes us relive the chain of sometimes harrowinghumiliation of and aggression toward the abused wife. This is her testimonial, which she has been urged to write by the church elders. By the end of her long journey she has become part of the ministry, forgiven those who acted against her, and ardently renewed her faith in God. She has also tried to instruct those women who may be in difficult marriages as to what paths to follow. Her attachment to God and her religion is primary in her life, and the title of the book, which is a quote from the Book of Job, sums up why she feels so close to God and Job.
