This is a parish study resource that promotes tolerance, diversity, and inclusiveness by looking at two biblical stories from multiple points of view - "Exodus" is examined first from the Israelites' standpoint, then from that of the Canaanites, and finally from that of the Egyptians (the oppressors). The lessons will lead participants to put themselves in the place of each group, then to apply that experience to a re-examination of the faith to make it more inclusive of other perspectives.
Angela Bauer is associate professor of Hebrew Bible at the Episcopal Divinity School in Cambridge. Elizabeth McGill is a UCC minister in Massachusetts.
