Author Bio

Heinz Janisch was born in Austria in 1960 in Gssing, Austria. and studied German literature in Vienna. He has published numerous books, including many children's titles, which have been translated into more than twelve languages. He was nominated for the 2009 Lindgren Memorial Award and has been nominated for the 2010 Hans Christian Andersen Award. In 2008 he received the Austrian Picture Book Award. Heinz Janisch lives with his family in Vienna and in Burgenland.


Lisbeth Zwerger has been accorded nearly "every prize that can be given, including the highest international award for lifetime achievement, the Hans Christian Andersen Medal." Since 1981 she has devoted her extraordinary talents to childrens literature, to stories as charming and picturesque as her native Vienna. Always surprising, always engaging, her artwork combines technical mastery with an insight and gentleness so rare and captivating that she has been correctly called one of the finest illustrators of the twentieth century.
