Description

Faith and Crisis of a Nation describes the period between 1890 and 1914 and gives an analysis of the state of religion in Wales during the period prior to and immediately after the Welsh Revival of 1904-5. It examines the state of the churches, preaching and the great preachers, theological developments in Wales and the events of the Revival. R. Tudur Jones argues that many of the social, cultural and religious issues that would be important in the late twentieth century and early twenty-first century in Wales were already extant a century earlier and that in understanding that period we can learn something of our own time. This fine translation by the widely respected Sylvia Prys Jones, sensitively edited by Robert Pope, whose knowledge of the field is second to none among contemporary scholars, allows non-Welsh speakers to access this important work for the first time.
