This is a practical guide to the art of hospital visitation, especially for those who are trained as lay pastoral workers. Chapters will address such topics as awareness of patient needs, ministering to patients in crisis, and the place of prayer in the hospital visit. The final chapter looks at Jesus as the theological model for lay pastoral workers ministering to the sick. A selection of prayers to be used with patients is at the end of the book.
Neville Kirkwood, an ordained minister, has had a long career as a hospital chaplain. He earned his doctor of ministry degree from San Francisco Theological Seminary. He is the author of A Hospital Handbook on Multiculturalism and Religion. He lives in Australia.
